If you are a Disney Parks fan like me, you have likely been keeping up with the announcements from this weekend’s D23 Expo! Since my interest in Disney revolves mainly around the Walt Disney World, here is a recap of what’s coming to the resort in Florida:
A new theatre inspired by the Willis Wood Theatre in Kansas, City (where Walt Disney lived after leaving Marceline) is coming to Main Street USA inside the Magic Kingdom. It sounds as this will be the site for shows such as Frozen Live.
The new Disney Skyliner will connect the International Gateway at Epcot to Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean beach. I can totally see riding these just for the view! A new Disney Vacation Club Resort is also coming that will be on the Skyliner line, too.
A new point-to-point transportation system of Minnie Vehicles is being introduced. Not many details on these minivans were discussed, but I’m assuming they will come at an additional cost. Depending on the price, I can totally see paying up for this service if it means avoiding a long wait at the bus stop!
Toy Story Land is officially set to up inside of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the summer of 2018! This highly-themed section of the park will give guests the feeling of being shrunk down to toy size in Andy’s backyard. There will be two new attractions: Slinky Dog Dash, a family coaster; and Alien Swirling Saucers, in which guests will spin in toy flying saucers while trying to avoid “The Claw”. Toy Story Mania, which already exists, will be absorbed into Toy Story Land.
Star Wars fans are getting an entire new resort dedicated to the movies. While I’m not a Star Wars fan myself, I can see this hotel becoming THE hottest place to stay on property. The resort won’t just be themed to the films, it will be completely immersive.
And speaking of Star Wars, we now know that the official name of the new Star Wars land being constructions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Similar to the Harry Potter area at Universal Studios, this new Star Wars section promises to offer guests a completely immersive experience.
Another new addition to Hollywood Studios is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! This attraction will replace the Great Movie Ride. It will feature a new experience called 2 1/2 D where no glasses will be required.
A new restaurant is coming to Epcot. This new space-themed, full-service eatery will be located next to Mission: SPACE. The new dining location will be operated by Patina Restaurant Group, the same folks you manage Tutto Italia and Via Napoli.
Tron, one of Shanghai Disneyland’s most popular attractions, is coming to the Magic Kingdom! This coaster-style ride will be built in a new section next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland, giving this area of the park TWO premier roller coasters!
It’s been rumored that Disney-Pixar’s Ratatouille ride from Disneyland Paris would be coming to Epcot…and the rumors are TRUE! This new attraction will be located in the France Pavilion of World Showcase; guests will shrink down to the size of Remy and race through the kitchen at Gusteau’s restaurant.
The rarely-ever-open Universe of Energy pavilion will be the site of the new Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction! No details were given for this new ride other than it will be an E-Ticket attractions.
Most Disney World fans have been wanting Epcot to be refreshed for some time now, and it definitely seems as though the power that be have heard the complaints. In addition to the two new rides and restaurant, Mission: SPACE is adding a “Green” simulation that is supposed to be child-friendly (and hopefully motion sickness free). Plus, more characters and Disney theming are going to be added.
I personally can’t want to see these new additions (even though some could take until the year 2021 to complete). Anything that is done to expand and improve Disney World is always a good thing in my book!
